About us

With family connections on Islay, we moved here in 2004 to live, work and bring up our young children. With a background in art and design, I became involved with the craft markets here while also teaching at the local high school. Being an enthusiastic cook, I started selling jams and pickles made from our homegrown fruit on my craft stall along with bars of tablet made to an old recipe we used as children. The tablet proved so popular that I started to experiment with different flavours and packaging and it quickly came to dominate my stall. Seeing a large gap in the market for high quality, locally produced confectionary, An Gleann Cottage Produce developed into a business.

We started up in August 2006 with support from Argyll and the Islands Enterprise, initially on a part time basis which soon became full time as demand began to outstrip our rate of supply! We now regularly supply many retail outlets, hotels and guest houses on the Island. We also work closely with distilleries such as Bruichladdich, Laphroaig and Bowmore to produce tablet under their own label and using their own whiskies. Our product range has expanded to include gift boxes and bags, loose tablet for catering and guest welcome packs and wedding favours which we make to order.

Our online shop was open for business in 2008, allowing us to send tablet as far afield as Japan, Australia and America as well as catering for those closer to home.

In time for Christmas 2009 we opened a small outlet at the front of our house here at An Gleann. Visitors are welcome to drop by and browse through our stock, we always have tablet samples for tasting or you could pick up some of our free range hen and guinea fowl eggs or some delicious comb honey!
