Information about An Gleann

With a degree in drawing and painting and a post graduate certificate in teaching, I moved to Islay with my husband in 2004 to live, work and bring up our young family. While teaching at the local high school I also became involved with the art and craft markets here on Islay. Being an enthusiastic cook I started selling jams and pickles made from our homegrown fruit on my craft stall along with bars of tablet which I thought would entice customers to look at my goods! The tablet proved so popular that I started to experiment with different flavours and packaging and fairly quickly it came to dominate my stall. Seeing a large gap in the market for high quality, locally produced confectionary, An Gleann Cottage Produce developed into a business.

We started up officially in August 2006 with support from Argyll and the Islands Enterprise. We now regularily supply most retail outlets on Islay and our product range has expanded to include gift boxes and bags, loose tablet and guest welcome packs for restaurants, hotels and B&BÕs and wedding favours made to order. We also produce tablet for distilleries such as Jura and Bruichladdich under their own label and using their own whiskies. Being a small business we can easily accommodate requests for specific flavours, amounts or package designs and as such are happy to accept bespoke orders, whether from other businesses or individuals, please ask!
